Most of these photographs were taken during my years working as a cinematographer, in the quiet hours of hotel rooms. Each room is different — sometimes a little more spacious, sometimes sparse — depending on the production’s budget. But in independent cinema, where I mostly work, the accommodations are usually modest, unadorned spaces. What remains constant is the window. Beyond it lies the world of the film I am helping to create — a city street, a parking lot, a distant horizon, an unfamiliar neighborhood. Each view hints at the place I inhabit temporarily, while the room itself becomes a haven: a space to rest, to reflect on the day, to think about the images already made and the script pages still ahead. I didn't want to show the grandeur of travel, but the in-between spaces of filmmaking life.
